Christianity Is The Secret of Prosperity
Review of Sermon by Apostle Joshua Selman on 3 John 2
Apostle Selman is certainly one of those preachers that the word of God is settled in the Christian right to prosperity. This treatise that he presented at a pastor’s conference seals the confidence of pastors and Christian businessmen so that satanic agents do not distract them through misinterpretation of the scriptures. Using the counsel of Jesus Christ, The Word of God as the example, Selman quotes “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36; Matthew 16:26) to open the listener’s mind to the gospel exposition that John was admonishing Christians about in 3 John 2. In other words, the soul or better still, who oversees one’s soul determines whether one is in business to gain or in business to waste it all.
Prosperity Is Christianity
When one meditates on Jesus Christ, the revealed Word of God, it becomes clear that poverty had no place in his ministry. He had a treasurer, he fed thousands of men, his disciples had families that depended on them, yet they went preaching from village-to-village full time. when he died, four well-paid soldiers shared the cloth of a single man and had to ballot for his coat (John 19:23-24). Selman points out that Jesus Christ proved the physical manifestation of God’s intention for man.
The concept of the church rat being poor has always remained with man. About a decade ago when televangelists reigned on our TV screens, there were attacks that these were money making schemes rather evangelism. The attacks became so popular that the US Congress had to summon selected ministers to explain the sources of their wealth accusing them of taking too much money from the congregation. The appearance of these men of God brought disgrace to the accusers who had used millions of taxpayer’s money to fund about five years of parliament sponsored investigation of persons (Televangelists escape penalty in Senate inquiry; 6 Outrageously Wealthy Preachers Under Federal Investigation). Essentially, Selman posits that must be aware that being wealthy is not the issue, the issue is controls one’s soul. Satan’s only interest when he appeared to Jesus after the forty days fast was to get Jesus Christ to worship him. The implication is that Jesus submits to the lordship of Satan on earth.
Jesus refused, yet He was not poor. He had very humble beginnings, but He shot to glory. If Jesus remains our focus Selman insists, then, we will unravel the true meaning of “They kingdom come” because therein lies the code to appreciate who determines our value systems. There remains a battle for our souls between the two kingdoms of Christ and the anti-Christ. Satan had wealth to offer Christ in return for Christ’s submission. Therefore, we know that darkness can enrich people in a mistaken definition of prosperity. We may be healthy, wealthy and all, but will it be profitable in the end. If one’s life is run by the kingdom of God, then one profits upon translation. Otherwise, one loses it all, to hell.
The trade-off is your soul
It is instructive that Satan allowed Jesus Christ to fast for forty days and forty nights, only to approach Him when He appeared to want to nourish his flesh. Yet, he persisted beyond the challenge of food to test the powers of Sonship that Jesus Christ held. Satan took Him to mountains where all the kingdoms of world could be seen, including the glory of each of them and was ready to trade them for whatever power The Father had armed The Son (Matthew 4:1-9). Selman tells us that Satan will tempt you or wait for your point of desperation before demanding your soul in exchange for recovery. Once, you submit, you have lost it all and there is nothing to profit on as everything becomes a waste.
You may appear wealthy and respectable in physical existence, but your eternity has no value. One would think that since Jesus Christ came to save the world, that would have been an easy shortcut way to achieve His objective. The revelation there remains that there remains a split between the two agenda. The Kingdom of God versus the kingdom of Satan.
Conclusion
Selman in this message claims that it does not start with wealth because wealth can be either be profitable or unprofitable. One would have thought that wealth is an accumulation of gains. He says that the technology of creation remains a mystery that confirms the physical manifestation of celestial existence. Hence, the soul of man must report either in heaven or hell as claimed by scriptures.
Therefore, it becomes profitable only if that soul makes it to its creator in heaven or it is sold out to Satan on earth resulting in a total loss in hell. He claims that this is the warning coded in 3 John 2. This makes it essential for everyone to carefully decide who controls the propeller of one’s soul as we seek prosperity on earth. He warns that the anti-Christ sells souls from those handed over to him to give one fame on earth. Yet, as Jesus proved, God created everything and remains in charge. Beware!
