Disobedient Christians Don’t Speak In Tongues - Part 2
Unbelief Leads To Disobedience
Abstract
Apostle Paul in his usual revelation of the Holy Ghost to people proudly confirmed his superior ability and gifting to speak in many more tongues than any other member of the Church at Corinth. If the critics were correct and speaking in tongues is barbaric and potentially satanic as originating from God’s scattering of languages in Babel, why would Jesus command it and will the New Testament church emphasize it among born-again Christians. Power is the ability to make things happen or effect a change in status. The evidence of power is the production of results. The physical reportable evidence of the reconnection of the Spirit of God indwelling within is the ability to speak in strange tongues.
Ignorance Is Responsible For The Fear Causing Unbelief
The exuberant expression termed craziness by the uninitiated is evidence of a wonderful exposition of the hidden truths finding utterance through a language too deep for human flesh to handle at the instance (Romans 8:26).
There is a challenge of the knowledge of mysteries, managing them and simultaneously verbalizing the groaning. Speaking in the tongues of angels by-passes the limitations of the mind and body to talk to God while cancelling out the challenge of unbelief and distractions.
It is not unreasonable that there are counterfeits (Matthew 24:24; Mark 13:22). That in fact is an acknowledgement by detractors of an inexplicable truth of the observation. However, being lazy to invest the effort to research a truth and to acquire the gift by explaining it away on the altar of suspicion is an acceptance of ignorance precipitant on laziness. There is also the excuse it was not mandated for Christianity. It takes too much to acquire and it does not obviate other true gifts of the Holy Spirit. In fact, such argument is contrary to the words of Jesus in Mark Chapter 16, verses 16 and 17 which grants no exception for any believers. The key is in believing Jesus Christ, then, the decision is made. His commandments including speaking tongues become mandatory.
With all humility, who will not be excited that they can communicate in the language of the celestial. It may sound pompous but it must certainly feel good that one could chat directly with God (1 Corinthians 12:10; 1 Corinthians 14:2). Therefore, criticism that speaking in tongues is self-edification is acceptable but the pride is for a good purpose approved by God. Speaking in unknown tongues is therefore not about self-aggrandizement but an inspiration of confidence that one is treading on the right path with God.
The challenge is to understand the purpose of the gifts of the Holy Spirit including speaking in foreign tongues. The Bible challenges us to investigate and acquire deep knowledge about why these gifts and their manifestation of them continue to grow (1 Corinthians 13:8-13). We must also recognize the need to improve on each manifestation by learning about them.
Essentially, since that Pentecost, the gift became available to everyone that desire it (Luke 11:11-13). The inspiration should then be to improve on that revelation by desiring to demystify the foreignness of the tongue by explaining it and edifying others. Further, aspire to prophesy with spiritual authority the mind of God as revealed unto you through the workings of the Spirit of God inside of you.
The scriptures confirms that knowledge shall increase that in the end-times (Daniel 12:4). The 21st Century dispensation that we are running currently is in the end-time dispensation. That increase in knowledge will not cease until perfection comes. Perfection comes when we are in the presence of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 13:10).
When the Pentecost events at Jerusalem was noised abroad, that is, when the people returned their foreign countries of residence, and told others about what they saw in Jerusalem many more became interested and wanted to see. Then, they heard about how uneducated men and women began to blab in funny speech only for them to discover that the illiterates were communicating the same message to each person in their native tongues. Not only these, but they also heard about the wonderful works of God that accompanied the experience.
Therefore, smart people heard about the Pentecost explosion of power and decided to inquire more about what they were told or saw. Mockers also got into their business. Essentially, the broadcast created its own curiosity and knowledge of the gospel. That spread of gospel fire continues worldwide until this day.
The admonition is that we should never stop growing. We must continually seek knowledge in order to grow and nourish our spiritual development and understanding of God (Jude 1:20-21). As we do so we know that our merciful God will uphold us, and back us up with miracles, signs, and wonders until we accomplish eternal rest (Mark 16:17-18).
Resistance To Speaking In Tongues Is Disobedience
It has been hammered in several potions of this article that the expectation of Jesus is for every believer without exception to speak in tongues (Mark 16:17). Yes, it can be a gift, but it is also the purpose of the Holy Ghost for the expression of love and evangelism.

That makes it a direct disobedience of the Savior to find excuses for shyness, laziness or fear of satanic counterfeit and confusion. This takes the expression of foreign languages invented by God beyond inordinate babbling and abuse of the Holy Spirit as an excuse for abstinence from a faithful Christian. If you care about Jesus Christ, you will make the effort to understand what He means to say (1 Corinthians 14:5-6).Fortunately, mockers have not succeeded n attacking the need for Christians to pray, at least not the extent that they have many Christians to doubt the power of speaking in strange tongues. However, whether bond or free, as you build yourself in the Christian faith and the Spirit of God certain revelations begin to open up unto you (Ephesians 6: 8, 18; Jude 1:20). One such new knowledge is to stop fighting those who are already gifted or manifesting spiritual prowess including speaking in tongues because you are weakening the advancement of the gospel of Jesus Christ while empowering anti-Christ subtlety.
To expect our natural five physical senses to discern spiritual matters is to be insincere. Not one denies the existence of emotional manifestation such as grief or love, therefore, to demand an explanation of spiritual observations with scientific experimental rules is to be insincere. It may be an undeclared rebellion (1 Corinthians 2:14). While the Holy Spirit announced His arrival on the uninitiated in the Upper Room with climatic disturbances, in that room saw strange physical manifestations including cloven tongues of fire before the overwhelming outburst of strange languages (Acts 2:4). Speaking in tongues is certainly a mysterious spiritual manifestation but utterance is not human invention but Holy Ghost inspired. To resist it is to disobey God.
There was a man who resisted the concept of the man-God, God is man teaching around Jesus Christ. He supervised the killing of other apostles. Highly literate rabbi of the highest order and made it his calling to wipe out the evangelists. With equal zeal that man became the chief witness of Jesus Christ among the gentiles. I am writing about Apostle Paul who necessarily found himself visiting and reaching out to many coasts in his new role as the evangelist-in-chief. He wrote one of the most prominent lines in the Bible which says, “I speak in tongues more than you all” (1 Corinthians 14:18). I would suspect that if anyone would know, he should know considering his vast knowledge of Jewish law and practice. To the contrary, he did not teach against speaking in tongues but made professorial level exposition on managing the use of speaking in unknown languages.
Essentially, speaking in tongues provides a direct connection with the mind of God and it remains the best route to understand God’s instruction (1 Corinthians 14:28).
Conclusion
Speaking in tongues is only valuable during our physical existence. It will not be necessary in heaven because we all know who belongs. Tongues is not only about prophecy; it is the result of applying love - the primary teaching and expectation of Jesus Christ. The power of the Holy Ghost produces physical changes in our bodies, and it is these changes are promotional, that is, edifying rather than punishing or bringing people down. As it builds one up, one can help others. Moreover, it is an expectation of Jesus Christ.
