The Place of The Holy Ghost Power In Sharing Christ’s Gospel - Part 1
“I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire” (Matthew 3:11, KJV). We know that John The Baptist was talking here about the incoming ministry of Jesus Christ.
Apparently, the ministry of John The Baptist may have been odd, but people were already accepting his message and spiritual significance. It will appear also that they have begun asking questions about the unorthodoxy of his ministry. That area of questioning became obvious in the challenges to the ministry of Jesus Christ and his disciples as the rulers of the time tried to cut short their disruption of social norms to avoid upsetting the Emperor in Rome.
These prophets who were neither ordained not followed the acceptable lines of spiritual authority were becoming noticeable as they gathered followership. It was at a time the rulers were united in opinion that political quiet was probably the way to negotiate the independence of Israel from Rome as some other neighbors have succeeded in doing. The supernatural powers of prophets were not the issue, but it must be complimentary to political thinking rather than upsetting the powers that be. The midnight investigative visit of Nicodemus to Jesus is instructive in this regard (John 3).
But why? What was all the disruption and the fear of disruption about? What is the need for fire addition to water baptism that identifies those who believe in the new doctrines? Certainly, there is confusion of the physical freedom with the love and the service of God. Man has begun to prioritize personal well-being above the love and trust in God. They have begun to handle matters in their own wisdom. The distraction appears to have been so much that God must shock humanity to reconcile man to himself. The program of God was more than that superseding Rome. To God, these are transient events. Man was too short-sighted to understand the promises of God.
To realize His God-ordained mission of reconciling man to God, it will be yeoman if Jesus were to take the task to do it alone. He would have to remain here forever trying to reach man for man (John 14:16-18). However, the principles of replication and multiplication to obtain dominion remain valid technologies in God’s ordination. Prior to Jesus, the Holy Ghost merely visited men to send to send them on errands. But from Jesus, transmission for in dwelling and permanent residence of The Holy Ghost in man became the norm. that becomes the essence of the baptism of fire and power (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:8).
To Utilize Holy Spirit Power Get Understanding
There was a reason that God chose to eliminate the world around Noah (Genesis 6:3). The same reason apparently caused the elimination of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18 and 19). It was not that they were inventing ways to sin that upset God. It was that they were so absorbed, and no one seem to care about God anymore.
In many of these destruction situations, the people seem to be too far absolved in enjoying the fruits of the land and forgetting their maker. The mission of Jesus this penultimate time being to reconcile man, entire humanity to God. In that task, He needs empowered disciples to reach men in the language that each one understood. Israel was to be our prophet in that journey as the anointed children of God and a locus for the adoption of the rest of the world (Exodus 8:1; John 3:16).
“How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?” (Romans 10:14, KJV)
Its great to identify with the purposes of Jesus by volunteering our commitment to evangelism. Yet, we cannot just jump on the train to start preaching without an understanding of the crowd out there. The counsel of Jesus that the disciples should wait for empowerment before hitting the streets equally applies to all disciples irrespective of age. We all need to be empowered to be sent irrespective of our motivation (Proverbs 4:5; Colossians 4:5-6; James 3:13). It starts with a knowledge of God, purpose of God, and understanding the roles of Jesus Christ and The Holy Spirit.
We organized this website on the precepts of growth. We understand the precepts of maturing Christian based on biblical perspectives of what responsibilities one should be capable of handling at different stages of the growth process. The laying on of hands on the perceived sick is not for baby Christians. Yet, it is the same The Holy Ghost manifestation that engineered the faith in salvation through the atoning sacrifice of Christ that empowers the healing of the sick. Not different, just management. They are mysteries beyond the ability of man’s explanation, but we witness the reality in performance. Hence, we need to devote time to study the word of God, get a good understanding of the scriptures before attempting to minister it. Trusting in the backing of God relies on the application of His word. In fact, it is tool that evil never argues with – quoting the word of God in context.
Therefore, as we respond to The Great Commission, we must approach it with a sense of responsibility. Doctors don’t just put on a white coat and enter a hospital because they love to help sick people, or teachers just jump into classrooms because they love children. In addition to their gifting, skills are added to for efficiency. It is the same with the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20). We must understand the intentions of the gift of The Holy Spirit that we become empowered with to optimize Her manifestations. We do not know every detail of every exploit that the Paul and Barnabas displayed Antioch, but whatever they did in that short space of time cause so much turmoil that the entire city had to come out to learn about this God (Acts 13:44). Yet, it started with a speech, an explanation of the mission of Jesus Christ. Such level of management requires understanding of the tool of the trade – The Holy Spirit.
